A 19-year-old man, Aliyu Yaro, has been arrested by the Adamawa police command on allegations of killing his three-day-old son. The arrest occurred on Friday, with details provided in a Saturday statement by CSP Suleiman Nguroji, spokesperson for the command.
According to the statement, Yaro, who hails from Kwacham Ward in Mubi North Local Government Area, was accused by his girlfriend, Safiya, of murdering their newborn just three days after birth. The police reported that Yaro confessed during interrogation, even leading officers to the burial site where the infant’s remains were exhumed.
The statement detailed the sequence of events, explaining that Yaro had impregnated Safiya, his girlfriend, and had been receiving calls from her, urging him to take responsibility for the child. On the night of the incident, Yaro reportedly went to her home, asked her to fetch water, and took the opportunity to leave with the baby. He later buried the infant around 9:00 p.m. in Girpata, Mubi.
Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, condemned the incident and directed that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a comprehensive investigation and subsequent prosecution.
