APC Confident Tinubu Will Secure Victory in 2027 Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s chances of winning the 2027 election, cautioning opposition parties not to draw parallels between Nigeria’s election landscape and the recent U.S. election, where former President Donald Trump made a comeback by defeating Vice President Kamala Harris.

Reacting to Trump’s win, APC’s National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, emphasized that the political dynamics in the U.S. differ significantly from Nigeria’s, reminding opposition parties that incumbency doesn’t always guarantee victory. He referenced former President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 victory over the then-incumbent Goodluck Jonathan as an example of the electorate’s power when they unify behind change.

Bala stated, “With the dedication of this APC administration, implementing new reforms that may be challenging now but will yield results, we expect Nigerians to recognize the positive impact of these changes by 2026 or 2027. At that time, citizens will commend the party and the president.”

Meanwhile, Labour Party National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, called the U.S. election a testament to democratic integrity and suggested Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could learn valuable lessons from it. He highlighted how American voters disregarded the incumbency factor, which remains a significant advantage in African elections, particularly in Nigeria.

Similarly, New Nigeria Peoples Party spokesperson Ladipo Johnson commented on the complexities of the U.S. electoral system and expressed hope that Nigeria would eventually curb the influence of incumbency and state resources on elections.

In response, Bala Ibrahim reiterated APC’s confidence, stating that Nigerians will support the party as they begin to see the benefits of Tinubu’s reforms. “We’re not losing sleep over opposition threats; we’re focused on delivering results for Nigerians,” he affirmed.

He added, “It will be challenging for anyone to unseat an incumbent administration, especially if they lack internal unity. The APC remains prepared and proactive. When it comes time to cross the electoral bridge, we are confident we’ll do so with strong support.”
