The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the 2024 Ondo State governorship election held on November 16, 2024. Aiyedatiwa secured a decisive victory with 366,781 votes, representing 72.06% of the total votes cast, defeating his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes (23.15%).
This election marks Aiyedatiwa’s first full term as governor after succeeding Rotimi Akeredolu in December 2023. The voting process, although largely peaceful, faced disruptions in some areas, with reports of violence and logistical challenges.
With his victory, Aiyedatiwa has promised to prioritize economic growth and infrastructural development, continuing the APC’s governance in Ondo State. However, opposition parties have raised concerns about irregularities in certain polling units, though INEC has stood by the results.
