Eligibility Criteria for United Nations Internships

Applicants must fulfill the following criteria for United Nations Internships:

Required Languages: The official language of United Nations are English and French, fluency in either English or french is required for this position, knowledge of another UN official language is an added advantage.

Communication: be able to Speak and write well and effectively; listens to others when they are passing information, correctly interprets messages passed from others and responds appropriately to  the same message; asks questions for clarification and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; tailors language, tone, style and format to match direct audience; be open in sharing information and make sure keep people informed.

Planning& Organizing: Develops and work with clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates enoughamount of time and resources for completing work; be sensitive to observe risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions when necessary; uses time judiciously and efficiently.

Technological Awareness: be aware of available technology; understands applicability and prone and limitation of technology to the work of the office;  apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to learn new technology..

 

Education: There are some conditions laid doen for a candidate to be  qualified for an intern with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

1. Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements to be able to join the term to work as an intern:
   1. Is admitted in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
   1. Is admitted in the final academic year of  university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in journalism, communications, human development, psychology, sociology, disability inclusion, international relations, human resources or related field; or
   1. Graduated of a university degree (as defined in a and b above) and, if selected, will commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
   1. If candidate is pursuing their studies in countries where higher  education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full time studies at a university or equivalent institution and is at the edge of completing  a degree program in journalism, communications, human development, psychology, sociology, disability inclusion, international relations, human resources or related field;
2. Must be computer literate in word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar and be able to use In-office automation equipment such as; scanner, printer, etc.).
3. Have shown interest in the working with the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.
4. Have got greta communication skill, and have the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds, education, race and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
